New features in Woodlot 3.0

Polygon Data Screen
The layout and colours of the polygon data screen has been adjusted to make room for the two new "Management Types". Current age has been moved next to 1st harvest age, and the utiliztion has been moved from the common section to the VDYP and TIPSY sections. Boxes that are not usually needed are now red, these include: SI Age, SI Height, and OAFs.

Yield Table Screen
The only change to this screen is the addition of the Commercial Thin Age and Volume boxes.

VDYP 6.6d4
The latest version of VDYP batch (6.6d4) has been included with Woodlot.

VDYP - Alternate WBS
An alternate waste and breakage file has been included and can be enabled through the settings screen. This allows VDYP to use additional utilizations of 12.5 on the coast and 22.5 in the interior.

TIPSY 3.0a
The latest version of batch TIPSY (3.0a) has been included with Woodlot. Many of the new features have been included and are described below.

Note: Final version of Woodlot will contain TIPSY 3.0b that was released September 28, 2000.

TIPSY - Commercial Thin
Commercial thinning is limited by region and species densities at time of commercial thin. For coastal regions commercial thinning can only be carried out on pure Coastal Douglas Fir (FDC) stands, and pure Lodgepole Pine (PL) stands in the Interior.

 18331816
 22331816
FDC21331816
 27331816
 33331816

Note: For lower initial densities, the maximum commercial thinning will be lower, as the number of trees available at the specified height may be less than the maximum.

TIPSY - Fertilization
Fertilization is applied at a stand level over a 10 year period, and can only be applied to single-species stands. The fertilization gain can be entered as either absolute or percent volumes. Absolute volumes are limited between 0 and 50m³/ha for Coastal Douglas Fir and between 0 and 15m³/ha for Pine, Spruce and Interior Douglas Fir. The percent volume is limited to a 0 and 50% range

TIPSY - Genetic Worth
Genetic worth (GW) of up to 30% can be applied to each TIPSY species individually. Note that there is no genetic improvement for Interior Western Hemlock.

Road Net down (by area)
A polygon can have a road area. This area will be harvested before the first cut or commercial thin of that polygon. A volume will be recovered from the road based on the volume/ha of that stand x area of the road. This area will then be removed from the polygon area for all subsequent harvests.

Utilization Levels
Two utilization levels are now available (one for VDYP and one for TIPSY). TIPSY now accepts utilizations of 15cm dbh.

NSR stands
Can be used to stall planting/regeneration of an already harvested block. NSR stands ignore the harvest parameter and are planted in the exact number of years specified.

Non Commercial stands
NC is harvest by sort order (when minimum years till harvest have passed.), the same way a clearcut is. Volume is entered manually and doesn’t increase over time. Height information can be added for height constraints.

Calculate Yields Screens
This screen has been expanded to three separate sections; pre-calculation errors, calculation status, and post calculation errors. The errors and warnings have also been linked to the polygon data screen. The error message returned from VDYP and TIPSY will now be processed by Woodlot and displayed automatically.

Summary
The summary screen now has adjustable column widths.

This screen can now be resized for high resolution displays.

Calculation screen - Reports
A few new features have been added to the calculation screen. There are now two different reports that can be displayed; one is by polygon and the other is annual. Both of these reports can be expanded with the advanced option. Report can also be cut and paste into other Windows applications.

All polygons can be include or exclude in one step, using the right mouse button.

A polygon selected in the harvest order will be automatically selected in the harvest schedule and summarized below. Errors are also summarized below the harvest schedule

This screen can now be resized for high resolution displays.

Deciduous versus Conifer
A calculation can utilize either both conifer and deciduous or only the conifer portion. The report shows the break down of deciduous and conifer portions of the cut.

Constraints
Age/Height Constraints can now be combined with an area net down.

Report
The report is now pre-formatted and can be saved in the RichText Format (.RTF) or the existing Text format (.TXT).

This screen can now be resized for high resolution displays.

Setting Screens
The settings screens have now been expanded into four sections to accommodate all the addition features.
