This screen is used to generate reports in WOODLOT. To generate a report:
  1. A calculation must be run before a report can be generated.
  2. Click on the Report button
  3. You will then be prompted to save the file (as shown below).
  4. Check the file name and save the file in the directory of your choice.
  5. Press Save

WOODLOT generates reports as plain text. These reports can be easily imported into any word processor and then completed by the users. Age distribution and time/volume graphs should be added with your conclusions, from the clipboard.

The report will be displayed in the Report screen

You may scroll through the report on screen, or select one of the following to generate a report:
  • MS Notepad, which comes with Windows
  • MS Word for Windows
  • MS Excel
You will have to set up the location of Word and Excel if you have not yet done this. See section "2.8 Setting up External Programs" page 2-8 for information on finding and setting up external applications. You will only have to set this up on the first use.

All data used in WOODLOT and generated in the harvest calculation is summarized in the report for your use and editing. tems covered include:

Section and Variables Reported
Summary information on your woodlot from the Project screen. This includes the data, and versions of VDYP, TIPSY and WOODLOT used:

 1.0 Introduction

This report summarizes information used to calculate a long-term harvest rate on Woodlot
Licence No. WLTEST1. The calculated harvest rate can be used to assist in determining
the allowable annual cut (AAC). It should be assessed in light of the assumptions used,
social and economic considerations in determining the AAC.

 6.0 Conclusions

Enter your conclusions to the user of this report on your observations about the upward or
downward bias of the assumptions used to calculate the results. Open this report.txt file
in the 'Note Pad' program or into Word for Windows to edit.

You may also add the tables and graphs using the edit functions, including:

Graph or TableLocation in WOODLOT
Yield CurvesPolygon Data
Standing Volume/Time GraphCalculations
Age Distribution- Age class distributionCalculations

Some users have commented that tables may wrap when printed. This is a function of your word processor, and usually can be easily corrected by reformatting your report using the Table function or reducing the font size in your word processor. It is beyond the scope of this manual to explain the operation of your word processor, however here are a few tips based on our experience with Word 97.

WORD 97 TIPS:

The simplest way to format the word document is to convert the text to eight point. Follow the simple steps below:
  • Import the report into Word using the [Word] button located on the report screen.
  • In Word press [CTRL] [A] to select all.
  • Select the font "Arial" and the font size "8" point from the formatting toolbar as shown below.

All columns are separated by a single tab this will allow you to import the tables into Excel or to convert text to tables in Word.
