WOODLOT for Windows 2.1 - Reference Manual

9.7 Yield Type
This section is used to select the type of yield information you wish to use, set harvest ages for the existing and future management regime, and for viewing yields information.

The choices of yield type are:

Yield TypeExisting Management (the current forest condition)Future Management (the future forest condition for subsequent rotations)
Natural - VDYPUsed for naturally occurring unmanaged stands coniferous or deciduous stands, partial cut stands and deciduous stands that will be managedUsed for naturally occurring unmanaged stands coniferous or deciduous stands, partial cut stands and deciduous stands that will be managed
Managed - TIPSYUsed for coniferous stands that have received some level of management to bring to a free growing state, or significant intervention in the way of spacingUsed for coniferous stands that will received some level of management to bring to a free growing state, or significant intervention in the way of spacing

VDYP = Variable Density Yield Projection
TIPSY = Table Interpolation Program for Stand Yields

See also "Appendix 6 - VDYP or TIPSY" for information on which yield type to use, consult the user manuals for VDYP and TIPSY, or contact your Forest District Inventory Forester.

9.7.1 Existing / Future Management Type
Acceptable Values: Natural - VDYP, Managed - TIPSY
WOODLOT calculates a harvest over multiple rotations (up to 250 years) using yield information based on the management type. Therefore, you will need to indicate the type of current and future forest management you are planning for. Choose either "Natural-VDYP" or "Managed-TIPSY" from the drop down pick list.

Note: VDYP and TIPSY are MOF yield models. Some variables are treated differently in VDYP than in TIPSY. Please use care when entering data from one yield type to the next. For example, SI and SI Age are treated differently.

9.7.2 Harvest Age
[Default] values are calculated from the harvest parameters using the current yield table.
Acceptable Values: Positive integer
Harvest age is the youngest age at which WOODLOT l will harvest this polygon. A manually entered harvest age will override minimum harvesting parameters selected by WOODLOT.

You may establish a harvest age in one of three ways:
  1. WOODLOT establishes a default harvest age based on the culmination age, and meeting all minimum harvest parameters.
  2. The harvest age may be manually changed by typing a new harvest age here.
  3. The harvest age may be manually changed by selecting on View Existing/Future, which will show the Yield graph. Harvest ages can be selected:
    • directly off the yield graph, or
    • by clicking in the box next to the up/down arrow scroll. See section "9.3.2 View Existing Yield" page 9-42 for more information about the view yield screen.
9.7.3 View Existing / View Future
These buttons activate a drop down screen for viewing yield table information. Please see section "9.3.2 View Existing Yield" page 9-42 " for a complete description of these buttons.

These functions may also be activated from Yield on the Polygon Data menu bar
