WOODLOT for Windows 2.1 - Reference Manual

9.5 Polygon Data - Common
This is the first area of basic polygon information. It is used for:
  • Adding, renaming, deleting, and undeleting polygons
  • Adding data common to the polygon.
Information on each polygon can be displayed by clicking on the mapsheet and polygon number.

Caution: A polygon that is being displayed may not have a yield table that is current. If modifications have been made to a polygon and one or more of the yields are not up to date, an asterisk (*) will appear after the polygon number. To update the yields, choose Calculate Yields from the Yield menu.

9.5.1 Add, Rename, Delete, Undelete Buttons
These buttons are used to add and remove polygons. They can also be accessed through the drop down menu. Please see section "9.2 Polygon Menu" page 9-36 for a complete description of these buttons.

9.5.2 Mapsheet-Polygon#
This list contains all the polygons that have not been deleted. The list is in the order as entered or created.

If modifications have been made to a polygon, and one or more of the yields are not up to date, an asterisk (*) will appear after the polygon number. This indicates that the polygon requires re-calculating yields to generate a yield table, for correct use in the Calculations screen.

9.5.3 Net Area (ha)
Acceptable Values: Number with one decimal place
Enter the net operable area in hectares for the polygon. This is the net area to be reforested, and which will be used to grow timber over the entire 250 year planning horizon. Therefore, you must reduce this to the area net of all reserves.

9.5.4 Road Net %
Acceptable Values: Positive Integer (no decimals)
This feature is not enabled for version 2.1 of WOODLOT.

9.5.5 Current Age
Acceptable Values: Integer (no decimals)
Enter the current average age of dominant species in the polygon. Negatives can be used to account for regen delays on current stand. I.e. -2 = the block will not start growing for 2 years. This is not the same as adding a regen delay; regen delays are only accounted for if WOODLOT harvests the polygon.

9.5.6 Regen Delay
Acceptable Values: Positive Integer (no decimals)
The regen delay specifies the number of years to wait after harvesting a block before restarting the growth on the yield table. A 0-regen delay assumes you will reestablish a fully stocked stand the same year you harvest. Normally you should allow 2 years.

[Default] value is updated directly from harvest parameters.

9.5.7 Utilisation (dbh)
Acceptable Values: 7.5**, 12.5, 17.5, 22.5 from the pick menu
Click on the down arrow button to select inventory utilization levels. The four choices are all that will be accepted by VDYP and TIPSY.

Caution: Utilization levels can only be selected as follows if VDYP yields will be calculated due to imitations within the MOF VDYP model. Other utilization levels will cause VDYP to generate a zero volume, which can result in errors in calculations:
  • FIZ A to C (i.e. Coast): 17.5 and 22.5 cm
  • FIZ D to L (i.e. Interior): 12.5 and 17.5 cm
  • ** do not use level 7.5 in WOODLOT
9.5.8 Forest Inventory Zone (F.I.Z.)
Acceptable Values: A-L
Click on the down arrow to select the Forest Inventory Zone (FIZ) for your woodlot. WOODLOT will accept a single letter, A to C for coastal and D to L for interior stands. Decay factors are based on FIZ zone. Please see "Appendix 2 - Appendix 2 - FIZ Zones" for a map showing all forest inventory zones in BC.

Find PSYU: If you do not know the FIZ, but do know the inventory region and compartment, the FIZ can be found by WOODLOT. For more information, please see section "9.2.5 Find PSYU" page 9-39.

9.5.9 Ownership
Acceptable Values: Crown, Private, Top-Up, Other
Select the ownership for each polygon.

The report file will show the volume specific to each ownership as an average over the planning horizon. The Calculate screen will also allow a simulation to be run on any combination of ownership.
