4.4 What are the steps in WOODLOT?
The steps used to calculate a harvest rate in WOODLOT are:
- Start up WOODLOT by double clicking the icon
- For new projects, you will have to create a new lot file with your data. Once you create a .lot file, you may reuse and update this file whenever you wish.
- Enter your project information in the Project screen
- Enter your inventory data in the Polygon Data Screen
- Enter your timber management assumptions in the Polygon Data Screen
- Compile yield information in the Polygon Data Screen
- Set harvest ages in the Polygon Data Screen
- Check over your data in the Summary Screen, and adjust some variables if you wish
- Set your harvest order in the Calculations Screen
- Set your timber management constraints in the Calculations Screen
- Run your harvest calculations in the Calculations Screen
- Test the harvest rate and sensitivity of assumptions by running a few alternate scenarios in the Calculations Screen
- Use your own judgement to determine if the answer seems logical. As a rule of thumb for checking, the harvest rate should be in the order of magnitude of the (net area)*(average mai).
- Generate a report in the Report Screen
- Save your .lot file for another day. You should save your file regularly during the loading of information and calculations.
- Exit from WOODLOT in the Main Screen.
