WOODLOT for Windows 2.2 - Reference Manual

Appendix 14 - 4 Harvest Calculations

4.1 Can you split the Woodlot Licence into private and Crown areas for separate contribution calculations?
Yes. A woodlot can be split into separate areas by specifying a different ownership for each particular polygon area in the Polygon Data screen. In the calculation screen you can then choose which ownership's to calculate an AAC for. The report will split out the individual contribution by ownership. Running an AAC on the Crown and Private data separately will not give the same AAC as running Crown and Private together. This is because of effects of aggregation, and having fewer polygons to harvest, thus limiting the available area, and forcing the cut over fewer polygons.

4.2 How can I include polygons for height or age constraints, yet exclude them from harvest calculations?
Assign a harvest age of 999 years. This will ensure they are not harvested in the harvest simulations. Alternately, you can exclude them from your analysis and identify these in your rationale as contributing to other values, such as for WTP's.

4.3 Can % netdowns, height or age constraint be applied to some polygons separately?
No, the % netdowns, height or age constraints are applied to the whole Woodlot Licence.

4.4 What is the relationship between the Harvest Age in the Polygon Data screen and the harvest age noted in the Harvest Schedule in Calculations?
The Harvest Age is the earliest age at which you are prepared to cut the polygon. The harvest age in the Harvest Schedule is the actual age at which the harvest occurs. It is common to have the actual age older than the harvest age you specify by polygon, as delays in the harvest cue often result if there are many polygons to cut.

4.5 How do I compile a harvest rate for 15-cm Diameter at Stump Height (DSH), or to reflect my cutting Permit Utilisation levels?
The utilisation levels specified in WOODLOT refer to Inventory level utilisation levels at Diameter at Breast Height (DBH), which differ from Cutting Permit utilisation levels at DSH. VDYP does not support utilisation levels less than 12.5 cm DBH in the Interior or 17.5 cm DBH on the coast. A 15-cm DSH is approximately the same as 12.5 cm DBH.
